Critical Theory of Horkheimer in the Digital Age: Re-examining Alienation and Control in Modern Society

Yao Jiang

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology is reshaping the modes of production and lifestyles in human society. While bringing
convenience, it has also given rise to new issues such as privacy violations and information distortion. Horkheimer, as a founder of the Frankfurt School, proposed a critical theory that provides a profound analytical framework for understanding these phenomena. This theory reveals
the essence of alienation behind technological development and helps us reflect on how to achieve a more humanized development path in the
digital age.
