A Study on the Visual Narrative and Film Adaptation of Liu Yichangs Novels under Cross Media Narrative

Huijuan Xia, Yemei Zhi, Jiangyin Dai

Abstract

Liu Yichang, as an important representative of modernist literature in Hong Kong, is known for his visual storytelling in his novels. In the perspective of cross media narrative, his novels have become a typical model for the interaction between literature and film, and
his works have been adapted into film and television works four times. Under the current research background, academic research on Liu
Yichang still focuses on the level of modernist stream of consciousness, and the systematic sorting of his visual narrative and the interactive mechanism with film adaptation have not been fully explored. This study takes the cross media narrative theory as the starting point
to analyze the visual narrative in Liu Yichangs novels. At the same time, combined with the adaptation and creation of directors such as
Wang Jiawei, it analyzes the form of literary texts in cross media communication, providing new ideas for interdisciplinary research between literature and film.
