Svetlana Alexievichs Exploration of Traumatic Experiences in Her Works

Weiying Wang

Abstract

This thesis explores the depiction and analysis of traumatic experiences in Svetlana Alexievichs works, focusing on how she
presents diverse voices and reshapes collective memory through narratives of marginalized groups responses to trauma. Alexievich centers on
individual traumatic narratives and the history of individual souls; her works pay tribute to life and death, pursue justice, and heal trauma. In
the context of resilience, this paper argues that her writing reconstructs multi-dimensional, multi-voiced collective memory by presenting real
states of individuals facing social shocks, addressing marginalized groups identity dilemmas amid major conflicts. With rational sympathy
and compassion, she reflects on post-traumatic recovery, emphasizing the irreplaceability of individuals unique historical perceptions and narratives, highlighting literatures healing value.
