A Study on Lexical Cohesion in the Monologue of The Great Gatsby

Abstract


This paper adopts Halliday and Hasans lexical cohesion theory to analyze the monologue of Nick Carraway, who is the author of
the story in the movie The Great Gatsby. This paper can be divided into three parts. The first part gives a brief introduction to the lexical cohesion theory, the second part mainly analyze the distribution of different lexical cohesion in each section of the monologue of the movie and
the third part gives a conclusion. Through this paper, the distribution features and functions of lexical cohesion in the monologue of the Great
Gatsby are clearly shown, which is helpful to understand the implicit information in the movie.
