A Comparative Analysis of Lines in Traditional Chinese and Western Painting

Abstract


As the beginning and base of all painting, line is the primary means of modeling and expression, thus having an important place in
art. Lines in Chinese and Western paintings have various meanings, which can reflect the differences in cultural context, lifestyle, ideas and
feelings, as well as aesthetic concepts of the creators. This article will study the differences in lines in Chinese and Western painting from different aspects and study and compare the characteristics of lines used in Chinese and Western paintings creation.
