Preservation and Revitalization of Ethnic Cultures within the Framework of Unity in Diversity

Qingyang Chen

Abstract

The "unity in diversity" of the Chinese nation constitutes the fundamental framework for the development of China's ethnic cultures. Through long-term interaction, exchange, and integration, each ethnic group has nurtured distinctive cultures characterized by regional
features and cultural traditions, collectively forming the holistic system of Chinese culture. In recent years, accelerated urbanization, shifts in
people's lifestyles, and the rapid development of the cultural and tourism industries have led to practical challenges facing many traditional
ethnic cultures, such as a lack of successors to carry on traditions, the weakening of their original living environments, and crude, homogenized development models. Consequently, the pressure to protect these cultures continues to grow. Effectively safeguarding and revitalizing
ethnic cultures is not only crucial for preserving their cultural roots but also plays a vital role in driving industrial development in ethnic regions and fostering a sense of identity among all ethnic groups. Based on a perspective of "diversity within unity, " and in conjunction with
current policy orientations regarding ethnic cultural development, this paper elucidates the current status and contemporary value of distinctive ethnic cultures.
