Mastering the Tools: Ethics and Paradigm Shifts in Intangible Cultural Heritage Design in the Age of AIGC
Abstract
generative models are capable of producing highly stylised visual representations of ICH within seconds, the design industry is gripped not
merely by technological curiosity, but by a deeper sense of identity anxietyfears regarding the devaluation of labour, the loss of cultural
interpretive authority, and the erosion of creative agency. Building upon this prevailing industry sentiment, this paper examines the current
landscape of AIGC's integration into ICH design, dissects the ethical risks it poses in terms of cultural demystification, data ownership and
the value of craftsmanship, and proposes a path of transition from 'technological panic' to 'tool consciousness'. The study argues that the
irreplaceability of ICH design has never lain in formal output, but rather in the weaving of cultural meaning and value judgements; only by
repositioning AIGC as a mediator of ethical practice rather than the subject of creation can designers rebuild their core competencies in the
algorithmic age.
